FAQs
How to Prepare for Your Appointment
Once you book your appointment, it is recommended to start moisturizing the area you plan on getting tattooed. Hydrated skin will help with application of the tattoo as well as the healing process.
The day/night before your tattoo appointment, drink plenty of water and get a good night's rest. No alcohol the night/day before.
On the day of your appointment, be sure to eat a solid meal before coming in. We also suggest bringing snacks and a drink, such as soda, juice or water to have on hand. Dress comfortably, and feel free to bring headphones or a book to help you during your appointment.
Pricing and Budgets
We charge an hourly rate or $150 per hour with a $70 minimum price unless otherwise stated by your artist. A cash deposit is also required when booking an appointment, deposits are nonrefundable and go toward the final cost of your tattoo.
If you are working within a budget, please let your artist know and we can work with you to stay within your budget.
We do not have an ATM on site.
Tattoo Aftercare
At Sword in Stone, we use Recovery Derm Shield bandages to help heal your tattoo. If you would prefer to not use it or have had any issues with similar products in the past, let us know and we can instruct you on alternative methods. If you need a refresher on aftercare instructions, they can be found below. Do not hesitate to call/text, message or stop by the shop if you have any questions or concerns.
Basic Aftercare:
-Leave bandage on for 1-2 hours
-Remove bandage and gently clean your tattoo with antibacterial soap to remove any excess plasma, blood and ink. Gently cleanse until your skin no longer feels slick.
-With a clean towel, pat your tattoo dry.
-Once dry, apply a thin coat of a fragrance-free lotion. A little bit of lotion goes a long way. Your skin should not feel slick or have any lotion visible on your tattoo.
-Moving forward, you should wash your tattoo a few times a day, especially if your tattoo gets dirty, after working or after any strenuous activity.
-Continue to apply a thin coat of lotion to your tattoo after cleaning, or whenever your tattoo feels dry. DO NOT OVER MOISTURIZE. If you are finding that you are constantly needing to reapply lotion, consider looking into a different brand of fragrance-free lotion.
Second Skin Aftercare:
-The first bandage application should stay in place for 24-48 hours, depending on level of weeping.
It is normal for blood and fluids to collect under the bandage. A second application can be used for up to six days. A third application may be used if necessary. Gently clean and air dry the area between applications. Do not wear any piece longer than one week.
-We recommend removing the bandage in the shower. Gently peel the bandage by pulling it slowly from the edge back over itself. Avoid pulling upwards.
-Gently clean your tattoo with a mild antibacterial soap, ensuring there is no soap or any residue on the skin.
-Air dry your tattoo and the surrounding area.
-Once fully dry, cut the bandage to cover the tattooed area plus a 1"–2" margin from the edge of the tattoo. Rounding the edges of the bandage before application will prevent it from pulling or peeling up. -Peel off the backing (white side) and position the bandage over the tattoo with the adhesive side facing the skin.
-Gently apply the bandage using light pressure, starting from the center to the edges to eliminate air bubbles. Do not stretch the bandage during application.
-Remove the top layer where indicated by the orange arrows.
-When you remove the final bandage, you may need to use an unscented lotion for a few days or up to a week to finish the healing process.
Second Skin Additional Information:
-If you need more pieces of bandage or have any questions, please feel free to contact your artist or stop by the shop.
-If you have any sticky residue left on your skin after the final bandage, wiping with baby oil will remove any remaining residue.
-The bandage will stay on the skin even when immersed in water. While wearing the bandage you can shower as normal, however excessive exposure to water should be avoided.
-The bandage does not contain any kind of sun protection, so you should avoid prolonged sun or UV ray exposure. We do not recommend exposing your new tattoo to UV rays with or without the bandage.
-Do not apply to infected wounds.
-This product contains adhesives and may cause allergic reactions in people with adhesive allergies. If allergic reaction or any irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately. Consult a physician if reaction or irritation is severe.
